Accredited by the National Children’s Alliance

Over 5,000 of New Mexico’s children are abused each year. All Faiths conducts 1,150 investigations each year to support the process of healing.

All Faiths operates New Mexico’s largest forensic interview program, the CHILDREN’S SAFEHOUSE. Opened in 1989, the Safehouse provides child-sensitive interviews and interagency coordination for the effective investigation of child abuse cases and crimes witnessed by children, ages 2-18 years of age. In 2014, the Safehouse provided over 1100 interviews. The specially trained interviewers of the Safehouse work with the child while advocates assist the child’s family members in connecting to the services and assistance they need. Child abuse cases require a whole investigative team and All Faiths is proud to be in close partnership with the various police departments, the Children, Youth and Families Department, the District Attorney’s office and UNM’s medical team. All Faiths is accredited as a Child Advocacy Center by the National Children’s Alliance, which means that our Safehouse is the hub where the various professionals work together as a team, putting the child first – bringing the system to them.

FORENSIC SERVICES are provided for open criminal investigations, which means that referrals to the Safehouse come from the investigative agencies and not from the general public. However, if you have been the victim of child abuse or believe your child has been the victim of abuse, please immediately contact law enforcement or the statewide central intake at 505.841.6100.

SPONSORS: Support for this program comes from our following sponsors.

CCSS is a recovery based program that provides behavioral health support by All Faiths’ Community Support Workers (CSWs) to children and youth in both the community and their homes. CSWs work with children, youth and their families in order to ensure that behavioral health needs are being met and work to support those involved in managing symptoms and behaviors in a developmentally informed and trauma sensitive way. Community Support Workers (CSWs) at All Faiths assist with:  Life skills teaching and coaching to address and manage symptoms and behaviors;  Parent training as it relates to the child’s behavioral health issues, trauma and healthy development;  Connection with community resources and services;  Support to ensure social/school/work/community success. Children and youth must qualify for these intensive services based on current Human Services/Medicaid regulations. The Family Wellness Program at All Faiths offers a safe place for children and families to turn to at the first signs of a potential crisis. Our specially trained staff provide a healing environment for families that fosters mutual support, interactive skills development and concrete assistance.

The Family Wellness Program at All Faiths is designed to help caregivers heal from their traumatic experiences so that they can become the most nurturing and effective caregivers to their children. Caregivers who participate in this program are able to receive individual and/or group counseling, and/or home visits from a family advocate. Home visits compliment individual/group therapy and equip the caregiver with new skills as well as assists them in gaining access to other resources that enhances their relationship with their child.

The Family Wellness Program at All Faiths was developed because of the realization that even when therapeutic progress is made with a child who has experienced trauma, the children do not reach their full potential and benefit without the involvement and engagement of their caregivers. Even the most devoted caregivers can sometimes impede healing with well-intentioned but non-nurturing care giving practices. All Faiths recognizes that individual child therapy alone is not always enough and that the children and families need a holistic approach beyond traditional therapy. Families benefit from therapy augmented with in-home support, guided practice and education.

Parenting Therapy Groups
As part of the Family Wellness Program, Parenting Therapy Groups are facilitated by licensed therapists and follow the evidenced-based Nurturing Parenting guidelines, which provide a foundation and philosophy of parenting that focuses on helping parents learn parenting skills that are supportive of their children.

$20 Book for group + Medicaid & other private insurances accepted (upon verification)

What is trauma?

Trauma is defined as an experience that causes severe anxiety or emotional distress, or an event or situation that causes great disruption or suffering.  Trauma is anytime bad things happen to a child or family, such as witnessing domestic violence, the death of a loved one, parental divorce, abuse/neglect, or any incident that the child experiences as distressing, stressful and/or disruptive.  Each child experiences a trauma uniquely and how they experience it is influenced by their age and stage of development.  Untreated, a trauma can have a lasting effect on a child’s well-being and behavior, which can carry into their adulthood.

Why are trauma-informed services important?

At All Faiths, our staff are specifically trained to skillfully assess concerning behaviors being acted out inside or outside of the family and then address any underlying trauma that may be causing the behavior.  We do so safely and in ways, which are in the best interest of the child and do not label the child.  Our goal is to promote life-long healing and nurturing families that thrive.

Taking Care of the Caregiver

In addition to working with the child client, All Faiths also works with their families/caregivers.  Our Family Wellness Program is designed to honor and help caregivers heal from their own past experiences to become the most nurturing and effective caregivers.

As a result, All Faiths recognizes that individual child therapy alone is not enough.  Changes in the family unit dynamics need to accompany the child’s progress for the best results in the overall healing process.  Families need support, practice and teaching in order to reach their full potential and healing.

Caregivers who participate in this program are assessed for individual counseling, group counseling, and/or home visits/Case Management.

Our Parenting Therapy Groups, facilitated by licensed therapists, provide parenting education coupled with therapeutic processes.  Case Management in the home complements individual/group therapy and will help the caregiver with practicing new skills as well as access to community resources to enhance the caregiver/child relationship.

Therapists and Case Managers utilize many holistic approaches beyond traditional therapy.  These include techniques and materials from the Nurturing Parenting Program, developed by Dr. Stephen Bavolek.  This program is evidenced-based and uses standardized assessments to measure parents’ progress in five (5) areas of potential growth to prevent child abusive behaviors.

Wraparound is a clinically guided approach to creating natural supports around children and youth who
have experienced severe trauma. In doing so, we help them to realize their potential and begin building
the life they deserve.
